This term springs from MiTek having developed design software for fabricators since the early 1980s for truss and wall-frame design as an extension of the Gang-Nail truss connector manufacturing system.

Lumberlok timber connectors and subsequently Bowmac brackets were added to the range, making up the family of truss connector plates, timber connectors and structural brackets for which MiTek is now clear market leader with all three brands. Its national network of MiTek-accredited fabricators of timber frames and trusses is complemented by an equally strong distribution network for supply of builders’ hardware through leading merchants.

The DBH has signalled 'structural' as one of two areas of focus in the licensed building practitioners regime, and MiTek is on hand to assist designers and specifiers with all aspects of the structural timber ‘skeleton’ of the house.
