MiTek has developed a new LUMBERLOK installation pack for the old challenge of fixing cantilever timber baluster systems. The pack is for face fixed and top fixed baluster posts in a cost-effective solution using internal connections to allow for easy fixing of decking. This means no annoying fixings on the top face for builders to work around.
A comprehensive LUMBERLOK brochure is available for the design of both face and top fix baluster conditions, and assumes a maximum live deck load of 2.0kPa. The fixings are designed to provide rotational stability to the deck system to resist horizontal loads of 0.75 kN/m on the hand rail and the top of the baluster post. The design complies with AS/NZS 1170.1:2002 table 3.3 and assumes an approved post and balustrade system is used.
The LUMBERLOK deck joist fixing pack consists of 50 stainless steel cleats with 250 corresponding screws to give an internal fixing arrangement for deck to boundary joists. This allows an easy fix for decking, and is an effective, code compliant solution that meets clause 7.4.1.3 NZS3604:2011.
