Limitations on Use

JSC weatherboard cladding must be used as an external cladding system within the scope and limitations of JSC Cladding Systems technical literature. All weatherboard and timber components must be installed, maintained, and finished as per the JSC specification.

It is the specifier's responsibility to ensure that the details in this specification are appropriate for the intended application. Additional details must be obtained for areas that fall outside the scope of the JSC VertiClad weatherboard cladding system technical literature and CodeMark certificate.

For the fixing of JSC TMT thermally modified timber weatherboards, only Stainless Steel fastenings must be used.

JSC Cladding systems must be installed by a suitably qualified and experienced trade person. Where Restricted Building Work (RBW) is applied the installer must be a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) or supervised by an LBP.

Statement of Building Code Compliance

The JSC Weatherboard Systems if designed and installed as per the JSC VertiClad installation and specifications guide, will meet the following provisions of the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC):

  • Clause B1 Structure: Performance B1.3.1, B1.3.2, B1.3.4 (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e) for the relevant physical conditions of B1.3.3 (a), (e), (f), (h), (j), and (q)

JSC Western Red Cedar Weatherboard System, if installed and maintained as per manufacturer’s documentation, will meet the minimum 15-year durability requirement in respect of clauses B1 and B2 of the first schedule of the New Zealand Building Code for external cladding. In a typical installation, it is likely to have a serviceable life exceeding 30 years.

Other Performance Attributes

Therefore, to help maintain the fresh, new colour, the use of a premium grade oil stain with a UV protectant is recommended, with a factory-applied envelope coat as the first step to a long and beautiful life.
  • All JSC timber weatherboards are finished with high-quality exterior grade coating options.
  • JSC weatherboards are available in a range of timber product offerings and profiled to JSC specifications, consistent with NZS 3617 and BRANZ BU411.
  • H3.2 treated timber castellated cavity battens are used
  • Quality Flashings and accessories are used
