For an energy-efficient building, effective insulation is step one. Eurothane PIR insulation boards enable the H1 standards to be met easily without having to dramatically increase the thickness of the roof/wall/floor buildup. This is because of their superior R-value for the thickness. For example, Eurothane PIR 150mm thick is R 6.80, and 140mm thick is R 6.35. Supplied by the Alternative Energy Company (TAEC), the boards come in a range of thicknesses so there is a solution to meet most design requirements and, most importantly, the H1 standards for insulation.
Eurothane general purpose PIR boards are designed to be incorporated in the fabric of the building. They are suitable for floor, walls or roof. The dimensions of all the boards are 1200mm x 2400mm but they are available in 10 different thicknesses, from 25mm to 150mm thick. The boards have bonded aluminium foil on both sides which acts as a vapour barrier. Eurothane PIR has numerous other advantages: it is water resistant, does not sag, and maintains its insulating performance over time. It is safe with electrical cabling and is vermin resistant.
Eurothane PIR is versatile in that it can be installed either over or between the framework, depending on the design. In a new build the boards are easy to install over the framework and can be sealed where they abut each other with Recticel tape to create a complete unbroken thermal envelope. The boards are also safe and simple to cut to fit between framework.
TAEC have supplied Eurothane PIR to Scott Base in Antarctica, factories, warehouses, wine cellars and business premises around New Zealand. Visit the website, www.insulation.kiwi.nz for more information including helpful example drawings of different installation scenarios.
