Achieving Aesthetic Appeal, Low Carbon and Circularity with saveBOARD's Exposed Internal Lining

Selected by Sam Brown, Director of Arête Architects, for the Tiu House project, saveBOARD’s Exposed internal lining offers aesthetic appeal and exceptional sustainability. “The results speak for themselves, the intriguing, detailed and beautiful tonal finish is unlike anything available in the market," says Sam. "The other key reason’s saveBOARD was specified was for its sustainability factor and suitability as a bracing element, which was employed here.”

Made in Hamilton from 99% recycled waste (including soft plastic construction waste), the Tiu garage alone diverted over 500 kilograms of waste from landfill. With 50% less embodied energy compared to traditional plywood, saveBOARD is a clear choice for eco-conscious projects.

Sam commented that “having both practical and aesthetic qualities make this a suitable material for many internal lining applications” and this has been proven by an increasing number of high-profile fit-outs recently. Powerco recycled old annual reports to manufacture Exposed Custom boards that greet customers at reception. KFC uses Exposed Black internal linings on the walls across New Zealand. Exposed Waitoa will sit proudly on the walls of the fabulous new Bank of New Zealand in Sylvia Park, specified by Warren and Mahoney for a number of BNZ refurbishments across New Zealand. Exposed White Noise will also feature widely in the Woolworths refurbishments, specified by Woodham Meikle Zhan Architects. Exposed can also be cut into standard sized ceiling tiles, which look fantastic throughout the New Plymouth District Council buildings.

Exposed is a pre-finished lining resulting in cost-effective and time-efficient installation with only one trade required. Arête Architects found the install time and cost to be significantly less than a traditional material such as a plastered and painted lining. “The install was quick and it was easy to cut and trim difficult line areas.” The cost saving of a reduced install time was a “critical consideration given the ever-increasing labour rates experienced by the construction market."

Exposed is CodeMark certified which not only validates the quality and compliance of saveBOARD products but also reinforces saveBOARD’s mission to provide eco-friendly building solutions that do not compromise on performance or design.
