Trespa Meteon Cladding: A Modern and Weathertight Option for Schools

The Ministry of Education's weathertightness and durability requirements from their August 2014 report advise that designers need to meet the following requirements when designing for schools; select envelope materials that will minimise maintenance requirements, minimise whole of life costs and deliver appropriate performance throughout the life of the building.

Trespa Meteon has been used extensively worldwide to create stunning façades for schools. In New Zealand, Décortech have already completed projects on a number of schools including Wintec Trades and Engineering Facilities, Te Wananga o Aotearoa Campus, Teen Parenting School and St Cuthberts College. Décortech have also just launched the new PXF system to make Trespa affordable and perfect for schools. The wide range of colours and finishes means buildings can be tailored to individual design requirements and the properties of Trespa Meteon make the choice a simple one. Paint, pencil and other graffiti just wipe off with over the counter graffiti cleaner and the panel's impact resistance means it can withstand the tough school environment.

James Cook High School was one of the first schools to embrace Trespa for their library upgrade five years ago. They liked it so much they also chose Trespa for the Gymnasium upgrade a few years later. John Durkin from Abri Architecture explains, "We needed an exterior cladding robust enough to withstand the rigours of everyday school life as well as flexible enough from a design point of view to allow us to bring something to the building that would highlight the school’s multicultural demographic and strong links with New Zealand history and traditions. Trespa Meteon panel, with its wide range of colours, excellent strength and durability as well as a simple well proven fixing detail system, was a perfect fit for the project."

The low maintenance of the Trespa panel means that the through life cost of the cladding is very low once installed, as there is no requirement to repaint the panels. Trespa Meteon is robust and nonreactive, so no coating or protective cover is required. The closed, pore-free surfaces of dense HPL limits dirt accumulation, keeping Trespa Meteon smooth and easy to clean with just an annual wash-down required.

Trespa Meteon provides architects and specifiers with an attractive, durable and sustainable solution to build the schools of tomorrow. Trespa is a market leader, offering competitive durability, low maintenance, colour fastness and through life cost.
