Sustainable NZ Radiata Pine Decking Enhances Lifestyle Village

Marlin Waters is a unique 60 villa complex for the early or active retiree, set in the heart of Whitianga Waterways. The comprehensive design takes advantage of the significant water frontage partly surrounding the site. The complex features include a shared private boat ramp, two beaches, private jetties, security fencing and a social community facility. Marlin Waters was designed to achieve Lifemark Certification and has met a set of specific design standards to ensure the homes are safe and easy to live in for all family members.

With an unprecedented lifestyle in the Whitianga Waterways, an equally impressive outdoor area was required to enable luxury outdoor living with a true waterfront experience. The developers chose Key Deck as the preferred decking option after it met all of the specified requirements for a safe, attractive, barefoot-friendly, high-performing outdoor area. Antique Grey was the colour of choice to match the warm, contemporary colour palate of the Marlin Waters units and blend in perfectly with the ambience of the surrounding development.

Key Deck is a stunning, natural, solid timber decking product produced from sustainable NZ-grown Radiata pine which has been quartersawn for enhanced stability and performance. Selected FSC certified clear wood provides a knot-free surface and the revolutionary new-generation wood protection ensures guaranteed protection against rot and decay, all while being safer for the environment.

Key Deck comes pre-coated in a natural timber oil or stain ensuring all sides of the timber are protected prior to being laid.

The builders, Whitianga based Cove Construction were excited to lay the decking using Camo Edge Deck Fasteners (a perfect accompaniment to Key Deck) which resulted in sleek, barefoot-friendly, fastener-free surface whilst also achieving optimal uplift resistance. Camo provided an appealing aesthetic appeal to the overall look of the deck, inviting owners and visitors alike to kick off their shoes and enjoy the silk-like feel of Key Deck underfoot without the worry of raised screws or nails.

Peter Abrahamson, Developer, Whitianga Waterways comments: “Whitianga Waterways ltd was looking for a decking solution that not only looked great but ticked the environmental boxes as well. We settled on Key deck as the product finish and the look far exceeds other products in the marketplace. The feedback we have had on the system has been amazing."
