Provista Euro Fin Balustrades for Boutique Accommodation in Orewa

Provista Balustrade Systems has installed its new Euro Fin vertical aluminium balustrade solution to the decks and stairs of the newly remodelled Orewa Beachcomber Boutique Accommodation in Orewa, the popular beach community just north of Auckland.

As a family-owned and operated business, Donnamarie Edwards and Geoff Schunselaar have been in residence for just over six years and have not stopped in that time when it comes to improvements to the property to get it to the place to it is today. The facility was badly in need of some attention when they first took possession, with tired and rundown rooms. Donnamarie notes "We had a vision and we have stuck to it, 'offering a quality, luxurious and unique experience for all our guests' from the family, to the business traveller, to the romantic getaway couple — we want to provide a Kiwi experience with the trimmings."

As part of the inspiration for the recent re-modelling, she adds, "We were looking for a 'sexy' solution to replace the existing and to enhance the overall aesthetics. Our rooms are all individually styled and we think are looking great! There was also an old wooden balustrade where the height and vertical spacing were no longer meeting council requirements, and the overall structure had suffered from age and the salt air environment corroding the fittings — quite frankly we were concerned over the safety aspect for our guests."

Donnamarie continues, "We had investigated screening options and found a supplier (AE Tilley) and believed this would work for our Boutique Accommodation. We needed framework for the screens and also a balustrade that would complement the screens and meet our overall vision. Chris from Provista took the time to meet with us and engineer a workable solution, where he utilised the existing Provista post profile — this was a winner! Chris was always available and positive about achieving our goals and kept us abreast of new developments — this included the Provista Euro Fin product. We were already down the track of utilising the more traditional Provista vertical aluminium baluster product when Chris introduced us to the newly released Fin. We loved it — it was modern, worked with the screening and with the depth of the fin provided additional privacy for our guests. Again, a winner!"

Along with the beautifully redecorated rooms, the re-modelled Orewa Beachcomber now features updated exterior finishes and complementary colour combinations. The Euro Fin balustrades feature a Matt Black powder coat finish in keeping with the exterior colour finishes of other parts of the building. Provista’s strong ‘Ultra’ post profile was utilised as the support structure for the Euro Fin panels which also allowed visually pleasing post spacings to be achieved. The Ultra post range is specified for use in Extra High wind zones as standard. On parts of the first floor deck and between the lower apartments, the Ultra posts were also used to mount the decorative punched aluminium screening at extra height to allow further privacy to these areas.

The new Euro Fin solutions are very adaptable to different building types, looking great on modern or classical structures and, in this case, have provided an attractive and practical low maintenance balustrade solution that complements the design and look of the Orewa Beachcomber as well as providing privacy for guests when seated on the first floor deck areas.

Donnamarie and Geoff sum up that the balustrade and screening solutions have improved the overall look of the made-over Orewa Beachcomber. “They’re sleek and modern and improve our street appeal."

Provista Balustrade Systems' aluminium Euro Fin product features options of a pleasing rectangular and square profile offering increased privacy over conventional baluster systems. Suiting both classic and contemporary building design, Provista Euro Fin is a versatile solution for deck balustrades or privacy screenings.

Not requiring a traditional handrail to the top of the balustrade, a Euro Fin solution looks very clean and linear and Fin spacings and heights can be adapted to suit the desired level of privacy. Completed panels are affixed to either a face-fixed or top-fixed Provista post profile. These post profiles are also used for Provista glass solutions, so a balustrade or pool fence can comprise a combination of Euro Fin and glass to suit the desired look. Euro Fin panels are designed to be the same height as posts ensuring a uniform and linear appearance.

Provista Balustrade Systems solutions are compliant with all NZ regulations and suited to A, B, E and C3 residential and commercial applications.
