Clean Lines of Euro Fin Balustrading Combine Safety and Style in Two Hawkes Bay Projects

Having used the Euro Fin balustrade solution on previous projects and being very happy with the way the product complemented the architectural style of the dwellings, it was an easy decision for HDT Architects, Hawkes Bay to specify Provista Balustrade System’s Euro Fin on another development, in Hastings.

200 Maraekakaho Rd, St Leonards, Hastings is a multi-unit social housing development featuring attractive two-level standalone dwellings. The Euro Fin 50 x 15mm profile was specified and has been used to great effect to add a stylish design element to the stair access areas of the standalone buildings. The Fins range from 5m in length at the top of the access ways and reduce in length as they follow the stairs to the ground level, providing an attractive and effective screen to the stair void as well as a smart and safe balustrade for the stairs.

Euro Fin is also used for each unit’s 2nd level deck areas and, like the stairs, the Euro Fin is side-fixed to the timber structure providing a clean lineal look and covering the deck and stair structures behind. The units in the development are finished in pleasing grey tones which are perfectly complemented by the Matt Black powder-coat finish of the Euro Fin solution.

Just 8km away in Havelock North is preeminent Girls Boarding School, Woodford House. Hawkes Bay Architectural firm, RTA Studio, also specified Provista’s Euro Fin solution as a safe and stylish balustrade for new walkway, stair and retaining wall areas being added to areas of the classic school buildings. Once again, the 50mm Fin was chosen, and again provides an attractive solution that works well with the older building style.

There’s a mix of top and side-fixing of the Euro Fin with the side-fixed stair areas having a mix of standard height and longer length fins to create stylish transitions between walkway, stairs and landings. The Matt Black finish of the Euro Fin balustrading nicely complements the cream building exteriors, particularly where adjacent to black tudor-esque vertical trims in some of the buildings.

Provista’s strong ‘Ultra’ post profile was utilised as the support structure for the Euro Fin panels on both the Maraekakaho Road and Woodford House projects, which also allowed visually pleasing post spacings to be achieved. The Ultra post range is specified for use in Extra High wind zones as standard and, like all Provista extrusions, are manufactured from 6061 T6 aluminium for extra strength and longevity.

The Euro Fin product range, comprising a 50 x 15, 40 x 40 and new 100 x 45mm ‘Ultra’ fin profile, is very adaptable to different building types, looking great on modern or classical structures and, in these two cases, have provided attractive and practical low maintenance balustrade solutions that complement the design and look of the building structures as well as providing some privacy for occupants when seated on the first floor deck areas of the Maraekakaho Road dwellings.

Provista’s Euro Fin range offers increased privacy over conventional baluster systems and is a versatile solution for a deck balustrade or privacy screening. And as can be seen with these projects, the product is also fantastic for stairs as well as creating a stylish screened area below them.

Not requiring a traditional handrail to the top of the balustrade, a Euro Fin solution looks very clean and linear and Fin spacings and heights can be adapted to suit the desired level of privacy. Completed panels are affixed to either a face-fixed or top-fixed Provista post profile. These same post profiles are also used for Provista glass solutions, so a balustrade or pool fence can comprise a combination of Euro Fin and glass to suit the desired look.

Always looking to expand its offerings, Provista Balustrade Systems has other new products about to launch, including a bespoke Window Shroud system and Façade Louvre solution with projects already in place to showcase these new offerings.

Provista Balustrade Systems solutions are compliant with all NZ regulations and suited to A, B, E and C3 residential and commercial applications.
