With minimal constraints other than budget, the new bar space needed only to accommodate existing commercial fittings and fridges from Burns & Ferrall. Chelsey chose a herringbone pattern for the bar front, using Melteca laminated panels in black, in a Puregrain finish. Melteca panels, traditionally used in cabinetry and other furniture, were cut to 300 x 100mm pieces and edged to create the pattern. The Puregrain finish echoes the feel of real timber, giving a nice texture to the bar front, creating interest in what could have otherwise been a plain flat black wall. The pattern and texture in black remains subtle and doesn't overpower the other elements of the design.
The behind-bar shelving in Melteca Oiled Legno parallels the tone of the bamboo flooring, giving warmth to the space. A mirror behind the shelves creates the illusion of depth, opening up the bar and providing light. Steel has been used in the shelving and bar framing to echo the industrial look, as well as provide structural support.
A cost-effective option and easy to clean, Melteca laminated panels are ideal for commercial environments such as Marina Bar. Stain, scuff and moisture resistant, Melteca is also available as a fire retardant panel for wall linings where additional performance is required. Made here in New Zealand with decors inspired by international trends, the Melteca range provides practical design solutions to suit any style.
