The Avantidrome is a world-class sport and leisure facility centred around a purpose-built 250m wooden cycling Velodrome.

The $28.5 million Avantidrome features a world-class 250m velodrome track and links up with nearby BMX, road, trail and mountain biking facilities. It also features an area large enough to host other indoor sports and community events and houses the offices of national sporting organisations Bike NZ and Triathlon NZ, a cafe, public fitness centre and office space.

The exterior landscaping was constructed in 2013 and features multiple decks, seats, boardwalks and walkways providing seating for the café and relaxation areas for the venue's many visitors.

Chibnall Buckell Team Architects, who are one of the Waikato’s leading architectural practices, specified KeyDeck in Natural Amber for all exterior decking and Hamilton-based Lash Landscaping were engaged for all aspects of the landscaping including installing the decks, curved box seats and boardwalks.

Six years on, the decking is still performing outstandingly well. The decks are all fully exposed to the elements and high levels of foot traffic. Sections of the decking sit flush with ground level and are under constant attack from bicycle tyres, cycling cleats and kids scooters.

Refreshed with a new coat of clear timber decking oil in January 2019 — in time for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup, the KeyDeck decking still provides a high-quality, smooth, barefoot-friendly surface and has withstood its difficult life very well.
