When renovating a 1950s’ Wairarapa bungalow, the team at Workshop Designs settled on an aesthetic of modern luxury that would complement the rustic charm.
“The clients’ brief emphasised creating a sense of warmth using a rich and textural material palette that resonates with a modern and luxurious touch. The design had to remain in keeping with the rural landscape,” says kitchen designer Phoebe Clinton-Baker, who worked with her colleague Phil Judd on the project.
Key to the renovation of this rural family home was the transformation of the hardest working rooms in the house, including three bathrooms, the kitchen and the laundry.
“For durability and style, Dekton by Cosentino was selected across key areas in the home, tying together the home’s design with a consistent, high-end finish,” says Clinton-Baker.
A large family bathroom features Dekton Grigio in various thicknesses for flooring and wall cladding. Grigio’s grey background with warm veins is inspired by Grigio Alpi, a stone embedded with macrofossils of the Vicenza Stone. Like all Dekton products, Grigio is high-performing, is carbon neutral from cradle to grave, and comes with a 25-year warranty.
“For a family bathroom that is predominantly used by three children with a passion for motocross, fishing, and everything ‘outdoors’, we needed to create a space that is robust in materiality and colour selections, ensuring ease of maintenance. This stone was chosen because it’s beautiful as well as practical, known for its strength and resilience, Dekton is scratch, stain, and heat resistant, making it an ideal choice for busy spaces,” explains Clinton-Baker.
In the primary bedroom ensuite, Dekton Marmorio covers the walls, floors, and vanity top, providing a seamless, elegant look.
The finished home is “the perfect blend of contemporary design and functional elegance,” says Clinton-Baker.
