In August 2023, a brand new housing development, 139 Greys Ave (Te Mātāwai), was opened after beginning construction in 2019. Designed by mode architects, this project was developed as a space that will house more people in a supportive housing environment, promoting improved wellbeing for the local community.
This large-scale project features 276 apartments and on all apartment balconies, it was BiForm Solid Composite Decking that was chosen underfoot. As the only BRANZ Appraised composite decking on the market, BiForm doesn’t require oiling or staining like regular timber decking making it an ideal product for housing projects like 139 Greys Ave (Te Mātāwai) where long term-ongoing care and maintenance can’t easily be monitored.
BiForm's composition is made up of 60% recycled timber and 30% recycled plastic meaning you’re getting the best of both worlds — the natural timber decking look and the durability and low maintenance of the recycled plastic. The remaining 10% is made up of an anti-fungal agent and colouring.
Utilising recycled materials and environmentally considerate processes, the brand are constantly looking to lead the way in sustainability. Their dedication to their sustainability journey recently showed when they reached two major milestones- becoming a part of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) community as a Promotional Licence Holder and also being recognised as being Red-List Free as a part of the Living Building Challenge.
When specifying BiForm, designers know that they are going to get a product that adds value to their projects, not only from a practicality and aesthetics standpoint, but also ethically.
