Description

BiForm solid composite decking is an environmentally friendly decking option. It has been formulated especially for Australian and New Zealand high UV conditions and has been extensively tested by the Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ) in conjunction with CSIRO in Australia. The decking testing includes accelerated weathering and UV xenon arc exposure (equivalent of 15 years) to testing of quality control systems throughout the whole supply chain.

Made from 60% waste timber fibre and 30% recycled HDPE plastic, BiForm solid composite decking also has additives of colour, UV protectants and mould inhibiters. The materials are heated, pressurised and extruded into the shape of the decking and uses no formaldehyde or harmful timber treatments. At only 30% plastic content BiForm solid composite decking is specifically suited to NZ's high UV conditions and is less likely to expand and contract as those composites with 50% plastic content.

Scope of Use

This 130mm x 19mm board will be more appropriate for, but not limited to residential outdoor decking options, as well as commercial applications where suited.

BRANZ have appraised BiForm Wood Plastic Composite Decking to be used as an alternative exterior decking material for decks designed and constructed in accordance with NZS 3604.

FORM 130 Solid Composite Decking Board has been used most often in the construction of public viewing platforms. It is also used with either the concealed fixing system or predrilled and top fixed for traditional decking.

Limitations on Use

When being used to form any part of an access route to the main entrance of a building, the BiForms composite decking surface must be coated with an appropriate non-slip coating.

BiForm Ltd have had testing completed with a coating, meeting the requirements of AS/NZS 3661, and achieved a slip resistance in excess of 0.4. BiForm Ltd have also had testing completed without a coating to the Oil-Wet Ramp test method contained in AS 4856, which is an alternative solution. The decking achieved a slip resistance classification of R11 for both the smooth and grooved sides.

Statement of Building Code Compliance

In the opinion of BRANZ, if it is designed, used, installed, and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of Appraisal No. 680 (2015), BiForm's WPC Decking will meet the following provisions of the NZBC:

Clause B1 STRUCTURE: Performance B1.3.1, B1.3.2, & B1.3.4. BiForm's WPC Decking meets the requirements of loads arising from self-weight, imposed loads, and impact [i.e. B1 3.3 (a), (b), (j)]
Clause B2 DURABILITY: Performance B2.3.1 (b) 15 years. BiForm's WPC Decking meets this requirement.
Clause F2 HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS: Performance F2.3.1. Biform's WPC Decking meets this requirement and will not present a health hazard to people.

Biform's WPC Decking has been appraised as an alternative solution in terms of New Zealand Building Code compliance.

In-Service History

BiForm's solid composite decking has been on the NZ market since 2008. Since it’s introduction, it has been installed in various different settings including residential houses and apartments, schools, marinas, restaurants and retirement villages.
