Flush sills for sliding doors — which greatly enhance ease of access — have been given a boost in the new Metro Series ThermalHEART® and (soon to be released) APL Architectural Series ThermalHEART® product designs from APL Window Solutions.
These ranges of thermally efficient products, which are available through Altherm, First and Vantage window manufacturers, have an innovative sill design that passes substantially higher water penetration tests, thus making flush sills a good option in most exposures and applications. This improved level of weathertightness, with flush designs fully suited to Extra High Wind zones, also applies to the Metro Series ThermalHEART® with CentraFix™ range with its recessed frame positioning.
Flush sills reduce tripping hazards and cater for walking frame and wheelchair use. Lifemark recommends minimum door widths of 810mm clear opening in aged care situations.
A flush sliding door threshold is desirable with recessed drain or elevated floating deck for a level entry (generous overhead weather cover is also recommended to protect all elements of the building envelope).
