APL’s Windows and Doors for Passive House Use

This highly energy-efficient offering, available from Altherm, First and Vantage brand manufacturers, is based on the new Metro Series ThermalHEART with Centrafix. There are a range of window and door choices, including the 44mm system with double glazing and a 56mm system which has fully insulated profiles and is capable of triple glazing. Together with AGP Low-E glazing, the higher specification Centrafix options are suitable for Passive House use.

Centrafix positioning sees the windows and doors safely recessed into a building wall in a fully compliant manner. This framing system takes care of the thermal bridging commonly encountered with New Zealand Building Code acceptable solution window installations by aligning all the insulating elements to maximise installed window thermal performance. This alignment is important, as is controlling the free air spaces affecting typical window installation.

AGP glazing, large format, insulated Metro profiles and Centrafix placement all work together to ensure the desired Passive House performance targets are easily met. This local sourcing precludes the need for importation and use of expensive, bespoke solutions from Europe.

The APL Metro Series ThermalHEART with Centrafix data is available via the Passive House Institute NZ Passive House planning package.
