Ilico Apartments is a new development in the recently established suburb of Stonefields on Auckland's city fringe. It features sixty-five apartments across five levels and is designed by award-winning architects, Warren and Mahoney.

Unex was charged with creating a balustrade to complement the visual appeal of the apartments.

THE CHALLENGE

The brief was to create a fine featured balustrade that as well as being functional, would also provide visual interest, be compliant with building codes and regulations, and meet the limited budget available.

THE SOLUTION

In conjunction with a North Shore Authorised Fabricator, the Fence and Gate Shop, Unex developed a bespoke slender post that was of a similar visual size to the other vertical balusters. The customised balustrade was installed between May and December 2014.

THE RESULT

The end product is aesthetically outstanding. The Urban Modern style balustrade serves to break up the façade of the building and provides visual interest. It's a standout feature of these apartments and is complemented by the timber screens.

Unex's balustrades meet the client's brief of being safe, compliant and affordable. They also give the Ilico Apartments a stylish, ultra-modern look with real street appeal.
