EziSpec: The Smart Way to Get Specifications and Producer Statements Online

What is a PS1 and why is it important?

In New Zealand, a Producer Statement Design (PS1) is a crucial document that certifies a building project's compliance with the New Zealand Building Code. It's an assurance that the design meets the required safety standards and regulations, offering peace of mind for specifiers, councils, and building owners alike.

The role of PS1 in balustrade projects

For projects involving glass and aluminium balustrades, obtaining a PS1 is essential for verifying the safety and compliance of the design. This document helps ensure the safety of occupants and expedites the council’s approval process by showing that your building work meets the necessary standards.

How UNEX simplifies the process

UNEX makes it easy to obtain PS1s for their balustrade systems. With many years of research and engineering behind each of their pre-designed configurations, their systems are rigorously tested to comply with New Zealand standards. They provide readily available PS1s for all their balustrades, making the council sign-off process quicker and more cost-effective.

Introducing EziSpec — a smarter way to get your PS1s

What if you’re looking for an even easier and faster way to generate a UNEX Systems PS1 and specifications? That’s where UNEX's innovative online tool, EziSpec, comes into play. Available through UNEX's technical portal, EziSpec allows you to select your desired style, top rail, and fixing type using a series of drop-down menus.

From there, you can enter key details such as client names and site addresses, and with the click of a button, EziSpec automatically compiles a single PDF containing all the necessary specifications and the Producer Statement for your project.

Site-specific PS1s for complex projects

For more complex builds requiring site-specific PS1s, UNEX's engineers are ready to conduct a detailed evaluation of your handrail and balustrade design. UNEX ensures compliance with the New Zealand Building Code, so you can rest easy knowing your project is in safe hands. While generic PS1s are often sufficient, UNEX also provides bespoke, site-specific solutions tailored to your project’s unique needs (additional fees apply).

Guidance on the use of producer statements

There’s often confusion about when and where Producer Statements are required. Here's a quick overview of the types of Producer Statements and how to obtain them through UNEX:

  • PS1 Design Producer Statement: Available via the EziSpec tool on UNEX's Technical Portal
  • PS2 Design Review Producer Statement: A review of UNEX's PS1 by an independent CPENG engineer, available upon request (rarely needed).
  • PS3 Installation Producer Statement: Supplied by the fabricator, verifying installation according to the PS1.
  • PS4 Installation Review Producer Statement: A review of the PS3 and the physical installation, usually by an independent third party (rarely needed).
