Trespa Meteon was specified on the plant room at the ASB Theatre, above Auckland's Aotea Centre. White Trespa Meteon 10mm was installed and the panels were face-routed in situ to achieve the geometric pattern, adding intricacy to the panels and creating the illusion that there are many small panels when in fact they are larger rectangle panels. This allowed economic utilisation of the panel, minimising wastage.
The Electron Beam Curing (EBC) technology, exclusive to Trespa, creates an homogenous core with extremely high delamination strength within the core and surface finish. Face-routing the Trespa panel is possible due to the homogenous nature of the panel and the fact that the core is as durable as the face. This also makes the panel colourfast with great impact resistance, and allows graffiti to be easily removed with off-the-shelf cleaners.
The Profix TS45 rail and bracket system used allowed the panels to be fixed to horizontal metal structural framing. This system will span between support structures. This was perfect for the ASB Theatre Plant Room as the walls are sloping, with complex junctions.
This project is indicative of the design flexibility of the TS45 system, which allows architects to be creative outside the scope of normal design while creating a weathertight, tested, compliant façade system using drainage and ventilating cavity principles. The Profix TS45 system was used as it fully complies with building code and structural wind-loading.
Corporate logos and insignia, brand names and custom designs can all be face-routed. When used as a rain screen, artistic perforations and shapes can also be routed through the panel, exposing architectural elements behind. The wide range of colours and finishes of Trespa Meteon allows freedom of design not available with other cladding products.
