Rain screens around external stairwells are becoming more commonplace in three-level walk-up apartment building scenarios. Finding a suitable way to meet the requirements can be challenging as there are a number of considerations such as safety from falling, protection from the elements, ongoing maintenance, budget and visual aesthetics.
The incorporation of the Face Hung Fin Balustrade System is a great place to begin. Rather than trying to design a custom solution, the proprietary system from Spectrum is a tried and tested system that has built-in features to help make the design simple and effective. The connection of the fins to the outside face of the balustrade system enables the fins to flow between levels without steps or breaks.
Face Hung Fin comes standard with a cost-effective 40 x 20mm aluminium fin. The fin size can easily be changed to take larger or different sized fins to suit the required design aesthetic or screening.
On the Tukaki Apartments stairwell, 40 x 20mm fins used on their flat, with Clearspan Settler balustrade and offset round handrail on the inside. Balustrade posts enable simple fixing of offset handrail brackets where required in order to comply with D1 handrail requirements.
The Face Hung Fin system has PS1’s available for a range of fixing types. BIM files are also available in ArchiCAD and REVIT.
