The water sport facility on Auckland's North Shore is the home of numerous aquatic organisations including Swimming NZ and Water Polo NZ. Architect for the $26m Auckland project, Tane Pratt of Pacific Environments Architects, says he is confident the extensive use of Resco Multicom wall lining and the Resco Series 5000 range cubicles will be a major contributor to ensuring the centre's changing rooms and toilet facilities will stay fresh for many years to come.
"A key factor in our choice is that the Resco product is very robust in such a high-use environment; we know it is hard-wearing and very easy to keep clean," says Tane, who had previously specified Resco in the nearby AUT Millennium sport facility upgrade.
In addition to multi-coloured poolside shower areas, there are four ablution areas in the aquatic centre complex — male and female public areas, and male and female member areas. A strong colour choice is a feature of the ablution facilities, with Resco offering the widest Compact Laminate colour range in the country. Tane opted for red throughout the women's facilities and blue in the men's.
"We wanted to use colour to give more life to the changing facilities," explains Tane, who says he would have no hesitation in specifying Resco in future projects. "We try and support local companies, we know there are no supply problems and we find they are great to deal with, with good detail and back-up service supplied."
Resco's Troy Henriques points out all his firm's panels contain Antibac, an innovative bacteria-repelling compound that kills 99% of bacteria within two hours, for the lifetime of the panel. "Our pre-finished panels are water, impact and graffiti resistant and extremely low maintenance," says Troy. "We are a solutions company; we are here to help architects and builders create superior spaces."
