Modern Yet Timeless Kitchen Takes Centre Stage in Substantial Auckland Villa

This stunning kitchen space designed by Cube Dentro was awarded the CDS Kitchen Design and runner-up for the NKBA Auckland Chapter at the 2021 NKBA Excellence in Design awards.

The brief required a pared-back yet striking design with a robust form to take the knocks from a young family.

A limited colour palette was chosen with the hero cabinetry surface in Prime Melamine — Black with a Timberland finish, emulating the look of timber veneer and contrasting with the Statuario Venato benchtop in a leather finish. The white benchtop splices through the middle of the room and creates a checkerboard effect with the rear dark cabinetry and matching stone splashback. This created a space that the judges described as being “brave”, yet “so striking and elegant”.

A clever hint of vintage, tying in with the villa's era, is the cantilever dining table supported by brass legs. Pops of brass hardware complete the gorgeous space.

Design complexity continues throughout the space from finger tiles in the scullery for character, through to open shelving in the bar area, to display glassware and treasures, tying in with the brass details. The judges comments conclude the space has been designed with “extreme attention to detail and well designed for impressive functionality”.
