The Challenge
A new block of classes was being built at a learning institution in Auckland. The institution was seeking a watertight roofing system to protect its 3,000m² footprint.
The Solution
The architect had extensive experience using Viking Bituclad on previous projects and was confident in specifying the two-layer membrane torch-on for this project as well. Not only was it a membrane the architect had faith in, but the comfort of its accompanying BRANZ Appraisal, CodeMark Certificate and substantial product warranty provided added assurance and weight to his decision.
The system consists of a 3mm thick base sheet and 4mm thick mineral-chip cap sheet, which gives the membrane protection from UV. With both layers of the membrane being torched on, the bitumen can be carefully 'bled' into difficult areas and roof penetrations; areas susceptible to leaks. Viking Bituclad’s waterproofing integrity is further enhanced by its ability to safeguard the building from puncturing, rot and ozone.
Like any building material, the product can only function as well as it has been installed. Only Viking Approved Applicators are permitted to install Viking’s solutions, so this roof was installed by a skilled torch-on applicator with vast experience.
The Result
The use of a Viking Approved Applicator provided assurance that the college received a quality installation they could ensure was watertight. Giving further peace of mind to the college was the fact that Viking Bituclad is protected by a 20-year product warranty. In the unlikely event of a product quality issue, the college could confidently call upon Viking Roofspec to put it right.
Note: Viking Bituclad has now been replaced with three fit for purpose solutions: Viking GM Lybra, Gemini and Phoenix Super.
