School Condensation Issues Solved with Kingspan Insulated Panels

With a view towards its expected future roll-growth, Westmere School's recent redevelopment project has resulted in a modern and fit-for-purpose learning environment. Designed by Brewer Davidson Ltd, the school now boasts open, flexible learning spaces that keep the building interior warm and dry — a very important consideration when you have high number of people in one space.

Kingspan's Trapezoidal KS1000 RW roof and wall panels have been used extensively on the new block of classrooms because of the industry's growing awareness of a building's internal moisture levels and the speed of installation on the elevated southern side of the building.

Comprising a PIR insulation core sandwiched between two layers of metal, Kingspan panels deliver high thermal performance (R values of up to 5.35), minimal air leakage and the elimination of interstitial cavity condensation and cold bridging — a key requirement for the project.

Peter Davidson of Brewer Davidson Ltd says, "Moisture and condensation is a particular problem in schools where there are high population densities. Kingspan Insulated Panel's warm roofing solution offers technical advantages and is ideal for this sort of environment."

"Kingspan Insulated Panels offer the long term benefit of maintaining building integrity and structure," he continues.

The Project Unite team (the installer for the project) certainly appreciates some of the installation benefits that come with using KS1000. "Using Kingspan Panel definitely eliminates some of the battle with elements," says Anton Powell, site manager for Project Unite. "Not having lightweight underlays to contend with in the wind helps us achieve programme milestones much more consistently."

Kingspan KS1000 RW roof and wall panels are CodeMark and GreenTAG Gold certified, and carry a comprehensive Total Panel Guarantee of up to 15 years for thermal and structural performance.
