New Zealanders have always embraced outdoor living, but how do architects ensure their client's outdoor living wishes are being met?

To find out, Juralco spoke with architectural designer and director, Peter Davis of AD Architecture. Peter explained that clients have always asked for indoor outdoor flow in their designs, so these days he often specifies a Bask louvre roof in his design for their versatility in outdoor areas. "I envisage clients having guests arriving for a 4pm summer BBQ and the louvre roof providing shelter from any rain or wind that may arrive later in the evening," says Peter.

Peter likes to keep abreast of new products and trends, so he can offer his clients the best in design solutions. AD Architects has the advantage of an onsite product showroom, as they are adjacent to the Smarter Building Centre (Paraparaumu), which includes a full size Bask louvre roof. "It is great for the clients to have a look at, along with a chance to try out opening and closing the louvre roof and the drop down screens," explains Peter.

Depending on the building budget, some clients prefer to have the louvre roof integrated into a pre-built patio or roof in the outdoor living area. Although it is not chosen by everyone, Peter likes to offer the option of a Bask roof as he believes it is a simple and smart solution for client's outdoor living spaces. "This is particularly useful for clients that have set design ideas, but may not even be aware of products now available on the market," confirmed Peter.
