This stunning two-storey home was designed by GM Designs of Invercargill and built for a client in Southland. Although floating stairs were specified in original plans, specifications for the balustrade fixings were not finalised.
With help from Brendan Walker at HomePlus Southland, the owners chose Edgetec JH Clamp balustrade for the stairs and Face Fixed Edgetec Mini Posts for the landing. Once specified, the JH Clamp fixing threads were cast in the prefab concrete stairs to ensure no cutting was required on the concrete tread (steps). Both balustrade systems are part of the Edgetec heavyweight glass balustrade range, for 12 or 15mm* toughened glass panels, offering a more aesthetically pleasing finish compared to slimmer, 6, 8 or 10mm glass.
Powdercoated with Dulux Sandstone to match the wall decor, the Edgetec JH Clamp fixings blend in with the interior finish, in turn drawing the eye to the illusion of the floating stairs. The Edgetec Mini Post fixings complement the Edgetec JH Clamps, with the same colour finish and hidden fixings, maximising the sharp clean finish of the glass panels. This gave the client greater colour flexibility compared to Stainless Steel disc fittings, whilst still being competitively priced.
As per all of the Juralco range of balustrades, the Edgetec JH Clamp and Mini Post systems are NZS1170 compliant, designed and tested to pass (and exceed) the NZ Building Code requirements and backed by a nationwide network of experienced installers.
*15mm glass not available with Edgetec Mini Post range.
