The 7,500m² all weather warehouse at Te Rapa in Hamilton allows 'under cover' dock-style loading that optimises efficient and damage-free product handling.
Two loading lanes allow APL Direct to load four truck and trailer units simultaneously, if necessary. Its fleet of 15 trucks and eight trailers deliver to the group's 70 plus window manufacturers nationwide on a weekly cycle, including to a South Island transportation hub in Christchurch. The Hamilton logistics operation is based in the former Mainfreight facility which APL acquired in 2015, inclusive of an office complex which features an eye-catching façade in APL's Flushglaze commercial window system.
The new logistics arrangement includes several 'green' initiatives, including a truck wash station that utilises rainwater collected from the roof, and a repair and recycling unit to ensure that empty freight bases returned from manufacturers are made ready for reuse.
The 1.9 hectare site includes substantial adjoining yard space which offers APL expansion possibilities for its diverse operations which include aluminium extrusion, warehousing, powder coating, anodising, manufacturing and associated office, research and testing functions.
