In many countries paint is produced in the factory to a variety of colours which are then held on the shelf. 

Unfortunately timber is attacked by water, UV, moulds, fungi, and foot traffic (flooring and decking). To ensure the longest life and best ongoing appearance of a timber structure it should be coated.
