Woodspan PLT Midfloor — Terraced Housing & Apartments
Description

Woodspan PLT Midfloor panels (parallel laminated timber) are glue laminated, structural mass timber panels suitable for use as midfloor structures in medium density construction such as terraced housing or 2-4 level apartment buildings.

Woodspan PLT panels can form part of an inter-tenancy floor system where NZBC compliance is required for separating floors between attached dwellings.

Woodspan PLT panels are made from finger-jointed or whole timber boards that are then laminated into large panels. Boards are glued so that the grain runs parallel (in the same direction) to the primary span, creating a strong, structurally efficient panel

Key Features
  • Fast Installation — Prefabrication of Woodspan PLT panels offsite using advanced CNC technology ensures fast and accurate installation, reducing labour costs and keeps material waste and construction noise onsite to a minimum
  • Available in 90mm, 117mm and 140mm thicknesses giving multiple spanning options. Maximum panel size 7200mm x 890mm
  • Fire Resistance — Woodspan PLT floor panels have been subjected to independent, full scale load bearing fire testing to test method AS 1530.4:2014 with FRR 30/30/30 and FRR 60/60/60 options available. Tested passive fire assemblies using Woodspan PLT Panels are available from Ryanfire
  • Sustainable — Wood from renewable sources is the only truly sustainable construction material available. Wood acts as a carbon store — a vital tool in helping to combat climate change
  • New Zealand Made — Woodspan PLT panels are manufactured and fabricated in New Plymouth, Taranaki from 100% New Zealand Radiata pine logs from sustainably managed plantation forests

Scope of Use

PLT panels are suitable for use as floor and roof structures including diaphragm applications:

  • In any wind zone or calculated wind pressure (ULS)
  • In all exposure zones, excluding microclimates as defined in NZS 3604:2011
  • In conjunction with a primary structure that complies with the NZ Building Code or where the designer has established that the existing structure is suitable for the intended building work
  • In all hazard classes up to and including H3.2.
  • As a diaphragm where specifically designed.
  • In applications where NZ Building Code Clause C6 (structural stability) obligations apply.
  • Woodspan PLT Panels may be used with residential and commercial floor loadings up to 3.0kPa
  • Available in 90mm, 117mm and 140mm thicknesses giving multiple spanning options. Maximum panel size 7200mm x 890mm
Limitations on Use
  • Specific design required for fixing capacity where the wind zone is greater than extra high or the ULS is greater than 2.5 kPa
  • Fastening materials to be in accordance with NZS 3604:2011
  • Where uses a diaphragm the design of connections to bracing elements is subject to specific design
  • In applications where NZ Building Code Clause C6 (structural stability) obligations apply, the use of Woodspan PLT Panels is subject to specific design by a fire engineer
  • Floor loadings up to 3.0kPa — specified fixings to meet floor loadings and floor panel thickness
