Scope of Use

The Vent-Axia Econiq is designed for high-end new build and airtight properties but is also suitable for renovations. As a whole home ventilation system it can be used to provide both bathroom extract ventilation and fresh air supply.

For best performance the Econiq and ducting should be installed inside the insulation layer and is easiest to integrate at a design stage. Due to it’s quiet design, modern housing and vertical build the Econiq can be wall mounted inside the home (or garage) to assist with space constraints.

This home ventilation system is ideal for regions with environmental conditions that necessitate closed windows. This includes hot and cold climates, medium to high background noise areas, or regions with strong odours.

Suitable for:

  • High-end homes
  • Standalone homes
  • Terraced homes
  • Low rise apartments
  • Retirement homes
  • Student accommodation
  • Up to 3 storey dwellings (design dependent)
  • All New Zealand climate zones
  • Integrating with ducted heat pumps
  • Can be installed in either roof cavities or wall mounted
  • Easily expandable via the SmartVent design service
  • The SmartVent team is also able to provide free custom designs and solutions for domestic dwellings.
Limitations on Use

Must be installed in accordance with the installation instructions and recommendations made by SmartVent

The efficiency of MVHR systems is affected by the integrity of the building envelope, to increase efficiency in buildings built prior to 2002, we recommend thermal and air-tightening measures are undertaken.

Not suitable for larger commercial properties

Statement of Building Code Compliance

The Vent-Axia Econiq is designed to comply with NZ Building code, although correct design and installation is required in order to meet these standards.

The acceptable solutions for G4 (G4/AS1) outlines specific ventilation requirements in homes. If natural activities or environmental conditions produce any of the types of air pollution outlined in NZBC G4 3.3 , mechanical ventilation is required.

Additionally; as per table 2 in NZS4303:1990, private dwellings require 0.35 air changes per hour, but no less than 7.5 L/s per person when openable windows aren’t available

For extraction ventilation, table 2 in NZS4303:1990 requires at least 50L/s intermittently or 12L/s continuously for kitchens, 25L/s intermittently or 10L/s continuously for bathrooms and toilets. For laundry spaces, Simx recommends at least 40L/s intermittently, or 12L/s continuously.

In a typical installation, The Vent-Axia Econiq is designed to meet these standards.

The Vent-Axia Econiq also meets the NZ healthy homes ventilation standards.

Other Performance Attributes

System filters: The Econiq comes standard with G4 filters which are capable of capturing most particles larger than 3 microns. For those looking for greater filtration SmartVent offers a range of filters that can be included in your system design, such as HEPA, Carbon and F7 filters.

F7 filters, are capable of capturing up to 90% of 0.4 micron particles such as fine pollens, dusts and other allergens from the air. High quality HEPA filters are also available, which can capture particles 0.04 microns in size, an ideal solution for asthma and allergy sufferers. Lasty, carbon filters can be fitted to reduce strong outdoor odours.

Quiet operation: Acoustically insulated housing and efficient EC3 motors within the system keeps the noise generated by the Econiq (M) to 38dB(A).

NZGBC Homestar V5 compliance: As a balanced MVHR system, Econiq can provide four points and is suitable for Homestar 9-10 properties.

All SmartVent systems feature a 5-year warranty.

Note that the product must be operated and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions contained in the operating & installation instructions provided with the product. The warranty on the entire system is void if non-genuine SmartVent parts (including but not limited to; controller, filter, duct, fan(s) and grilles) are used as this may affect performance.

Filters should be changed every 6-18 months, depending on usage and environmental conditions.
