Description

Through roof ventilation systems are an ideal solution to ventilate a space where soffit or wall penetrations are not suitable. These systems can function as an individual extraction fan, or as part of a larger whole home ventilation system. Simx supports a wide range of designs and sizes of through roof fan kits, ideal for almost any type of roof.

  • Premium, corrosion-free UV resistant HDPE tube
  • A range of sizes are available, including: 125mm, 150mm, 200mm, and 250mm fans and ducting
  • Reducers fit to the bottom of HDPE tube to adapt to smaller duct diameters where required
  • Classic design with proven airflow capabilities
  • Two kit options are available. One including ducting and a fan, and one with only the flashing, tube, and cowl which is ideal for integrating into an existing ventilation system.

  • Manrose through roof kits typically include an aluminium cowl, HDPE tube, ducting, a fan, flashing, and fittings and fixtures
Scope of Use

Through roof ventilation systems are an ideal solution to ventilate a space where soffit or wall penetrations are not suitable.

Flashing for a range of roof types is available including:

  • Metal
  • Concrete tile
  • Clay tile
  • Slate roofing

The heavy-duty cowl options enable installation in exposed locations with high winds that may otherwise drive rain into the vent. HDPE and aluminium components mean these kits is suitable for marine use.

Limitations on Use

Flashing selection to suit the roofing material and slope must be undertaken by the plumber.

Installed system performance is always influenced by duct length and layout.

Statement of Building Code Compliance

The acceptable solutions for G4 (G4/AS1) outlines specific extract ventilation requirements in homes. If natural activities or environmental conditions produce any of the types of air pollution outlined in NZBC G4 3.3 , mechanical ventilation is required.

Additionally; as per table 2 in NZS4303:1990, private dwellings require 0.35 air changes per hour, but no less than 7.5 L/s per person.

For extraction ventilation, table 2 in NZS4303:1990 requires at least 50L/s intermittently or 12L/s continuously for kitchens, 25L/s intermittently or 10L/s continuously for bathrooms.

As per the E2 Building Code, a roof soaker flasher plate is required for roof penetrations greater than 60mm diameter. Please refer to E2 Building Code for more details.
