Heat Pump Underfloor VarioComp Heating System — Detached House
Description

A hydronic heat pump and VarioComp underfloor heating system is a sustainable and energy efficient option for home heating and is an ideal solution to domestic or commercial dwellings. VarioComp is a light-weight underfloor system that can be used in both new and existing houses. The pipes used are installed in a reinforced gypsum board panel, then filled with a screed to fill the panel voids and provide a finished level for levelling compounds or floor coverings to be applied.

The hydronic heat pump system

  • BRANZ appraised Multitubo Primary Piping System
  • Highly efficient Japanese Chofu heat pump
  • SmartOne controller

Optional extras:

  • Cooling
  • Hot water cylinder heating
  • Other hydronic options such as radiators and towel rails
  • Can be integrated with solar power systems
Key Features
  • Underfloor systems heat the entire room evenly and at a lower temperature, reducing energy consumption
  • Suitable for low or net zero carbon homes
  • Healthy — no forced airflow, central heating is ideal for people with respiratory or allergy problems
  • Silent and comfortable — invisible whole home heating
  • Flexible design options — can add cooling, hot water cylinder heating, and radiators

Chofu Heat Pump

  • 5 year warranty
  • Efficient R32 refrigerant
  • Very quiet operation
  • Temperatures as low as -20°C
  • 6, 10 and 16kW models available
  • App control option, can switch on/adjust remotely

VarioComp System Components

  • Compact Panel: 1000 x 600 x 18mm, installable on concrete or wooden floors with or without a polystyrene layer.
  • Variomodular Pipe: 11.6 x 1.5mm pipes, spaced 100mm apart for low-temperature, efficient operation, ideal for renewable energy.
  • Compact Filling Compound: 25kg bags, poured to a 20mm height, suitable for retrofitting or efficient new buildings, with floor coverings installed directly on top.
Scope of Use

Central Heating New Zealand offer a free engineered design service to create a system suitable to provide even, radiant heating to the whole home:

  • Residential — single storey, multi-storey, standalone or apartment dwellings
  • Variocomp panels sit on top of the substrate
  • Suitable for all climate zones — minimum outdoor air temperature: -20°
  • Ideal for open plan designs or designs featuring a lot of glazing
  • Can be integrated with solar power systems

Limitations on Use
  • Requires increased floor insulation values compared to an un-heated floor, refer to H1/AS1
  • Floor coverings should be selected so that they offer the minimum resistance to the upward flow of heat
  • Limited cooling performance (design required)
Statement of Building Code Compliance
  • H1 energy efficiency — systems are designed to be efficient in their operation and the insulation required for heated elements as listed in AS1 must be achieved
  • B2 Durability — BRANZ Appraised. Multitubo primary pipes have a life expectancy in excess of 50 years
  • G12 — The underfloor Multitubo primary piping system has been appraised for use as the piping components for water supply as per the scope of New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) Acceptable Solution G12/AS1, and verification method G12/VM1 and as pipe for proprietary heating systems subject to specific design.
In-Service History

Central Heating New Zealand has been installing hydronic heating systems in over 15,000 residential and commercial projects throughout New Zealand over the last 23 years.

Chofu heat pumps have been in use in New Zealand since 2014.

Other Performance Attributes
  • Chofu are the first of its kind to use R32 refrigerant in New Zealand, which has than half the GWP (global warming potential) of R410A
  • R32 efficiently conveys heat it requires less refrigerant volume per kW. This equates to a 10% reduction in energy consumption
  • The R32 Chofu boasts heating efficiencies over a COP of 4.5 and delivers water temperatures up to 60°C at high efficiency
  • Chofu heat pumps patented anti-frost technology ensures high performance is maintained in temperatures as low as -20°C
