Cost-Effective Acoustic Solution for Multi-Residential Buildings: Introducing PhoneStar Lite

When designing multi-residential townhouses and apartments, managing sound transmission between units is a critical concern. PhoneStar Lite emerges as an innovative, cost-effective mid-floor acoustic system designed to address this issue with a minimal profile of less than 21mm.

PhoneStar Lite has been tested in New Zealand on the GBDFA 60b ceiling/floor system, ensuring its reliability and ease of specification. PhoneStar’s versatility allows it to also be utilised across a wide range of different systems, making it an adaptable choice for various projects. For those interested in exploring its potential, the Woodland Lifestyle team offers detailed documentation and project-specific assistance.

The PhoneStar Lite system comprises three key components:

  1. PhoneStar Tri: At the core of the system is Woodland Lifestyle’s soundproofing board, PhoneStar Tri, which is only 15mm thick. PhoneStar is engineered to significantly enhance the acoustic performance of walls, floors and ceilings by reducing sound transmission. Its unique construction involves compacted loose sand encased in fluted engineered cardboard, making it both breathable and effective.

  2. Decoupling Plate: This 4mm thick underlay supports various surface coverings, including ceramics, natural stone, parquet, carpets, and plastic coverings. The decoupling plate ensures compatibility with different flooring materials, contributing to the system’s overall effectiveness.

  3. Decoupling Fleece: Measuring 1.4mm in thickness, this fleece layer creates a decoupling barrier between the PhoneStar board and the structural floor. By separating these two hard surfaces, the fleece plays a crucial role in reducing airborne and impact sound.

When combined, these components form the PhoneStar Lite system, which maintains a total build-up of less than 21mm. This slim profile eliminates the need for a suspended floor, offering enhanced design flexibility, particularly in scenarios where height constraints are a concern.

PhoneStar Lite represents a significant advancement in acoustic solutions for multi-residential buildings. Its proven performance, slim design, and adaptability make it an ideal choice for modern living spaces.
