Low Carbon Design with Troldtekt Acoustic Panels

Troldtekt panels by Kingspan are a Scandinavian designed and manufactured wood wool acoustic ceiling and wall solution. Since 1935, Troldtekt panels have been manufactured using a combination of wood and cement to produce a low carbon solution that can be used in school classrooms and gymnasiums, restaurants and cafes, healthcare facilities, office fit-outs, and residential homes.

Troldtekt panels are a low carbon solution for three reasons:

1) Troldtekt continuously innovates within the manufacturing process

Despite being an industry stalwart in the acoustic panel market, Troldtekt’s factory in Denmark is involved in initiatives that show they are committed to the environment. Through creating and embedding water management and manufacturing circular waste practices, Troldtekt has achieved a Cradle-to-Cradle Gold Certification. From 2021, 98% of the manufacturing site has run on renewable electricity. In 2023, Troldtket’s new product, FUTURECEM won the prestigious German Sustainability Award in the ‘Design’ category for its low carbon cement acoustic panel. Over their entire product life cycle, the carbon footprint of Troldtekt’s FUTURECEM is 26.4% lower than traditional Troldtekt using grey cement, or
37.7% lower than traditional Troldtekt using white cement.

2) Troldtekt Acoustic Panels can be repainted and reused

Service life is a key factor in sustainable construction. Troldtekt panels can be repainted without impacting their acoustic performance in mitigating reverberation within a room. This means that rooms that have Troldtekt can reflect current interior trends without needing to be replaced.

3) Troldtekt uses sustainable timber

Troldtekt is manufactured from 100% Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) sourced timber and Portland cement located within 150kms of the Danish factory. The blending of the wood wool ensures breathability, while the cement adds the desired strength, durability and fire properties (Group 1-S when tested to ISO 5660-1:2015). The structure of the material also provides a basis for sound absorption for ceiling or wall applications and will reduce noise reverberation and provide room acoustics.
