S.I.Milan is rated R10, how are ‘R’ ratings relevant?
The 'R' value shows the degree of slip resistance a tile has on the DIN 51130 ramp test. R10 slip-resistance is ideal for home design safety without compromising on style. The 'R' stands for 'ramp test' and '10' is the slip-resistance value. Tiles rated R10-R13 are suitable for outdoor use as well as most internal spaces.
AS/NZS 4586 is the slip resistance standard in use in Australia. AS/NZS 3661.1 is an earlier version of the slip resistance standard and the version still referenced under the NZ Building Code in D1/AS1 of the D1 Compliance Document.
AS/NZS 4586 has two alternative tests using the ramp method of assessing the slip rating; these tests provide ‘R’ rating results. The ramp method of testing is more commonly used in Australia however has relevance for NZ specifiers in gauging safety and fit-for-purpose use of products. In most circumstances, the Tile Warehouse Commercial Team can provide the ratings required, including co-efficiency of friction test results on their porcelains.
