The success of a well designed and constructed bathroom is as much about the unseen structural layers as it is about having gorgeous surface coverings and fittings. The greater the planning and preparation, the greater the likelihood of avoiding problems during construction and maximising the performance and function of the space into the future.
The clients of this new home build consulted with Tile Depot staff in the early planning stages of the design and were able to identify several issues not previously considered, before they even looked at the tiles. These included:
- The finished combined floor height of the tiles, adhesive, waterproofing and Warmfloor underfloor heating system which affected the position of a large window that was to meet the tiled floor.
- The type and position of the bathroom mirror. It may seem bizarre to be selecting a mirror before the tiles but if an LED mirror is desired then this needs to be accounted for early on in the lighting and wiring plan for the space.
- Similarly, the type and position of the towel rail will also affect the wiring plan.
- The design and position of the shower niche.
In discussing the latter item, staff introduced the clients to the Aquamox wall niche. Aquamox wall niche is a prefabricated insert designed to make building recesses for showers and bathrooms a simple and hassle-free task. They are a singular piece of high-density board covered in reinforced mesh and mortar with a 30mm flange on all four sides. This ensures there will be no leaks and are easily married with the waterproofing membranes that are subsequently applied. Easy to install, reliable and practical. They’re a great “peace of mind” product that improves efficiencies around construction and waterproofing.
The Aquamox wall niche is available in six standard sizes that range from 180 x 120mm to 640 x 340mm that can be laid both horizontally and vertically. Custom sizes are also available on request.
These clients were so taken with the elegant and simple solution to shower storage offered by the Aquamox system that they purchased three for their new bathroom and ensuite.
From wall and floor linings, waterproofing membranes, underfloor heating systems, adhesives and sealants, trims, prefabricated shower bases and wall niches to all the finishing products, bathware and tiles, The Tile Depot has both the products and the knowledge to ensure the right solutions and systems are selected for the job.
