Techlam Timber Creates Point of Interest at Barrack Place

Barrack Place is in the heart of the city — just a one minute walk from the financial district in Martin Place, two minutes from Wynyard and close to the Harbour.

Techlam worked closely with Savcon to create a finish that would satisfy the brief of the client. The final product was shipped to Sydney and pre-coated by Savcon to a very high level of finish.

Forming a dominant but subtle feature in the lobby, the Sprucelam forms simple portal frames across the open space. The natural timber creates a warm and welcoming environment.

The final result speaks for itself, the finish and outcome are a testament to the high-quality craftsmanship from all involved.

This is yet another great example of how working closely with trades can ensure the successful and painless delivery of a commercial project, all whilst keeping within the construction programme.

Sprucelam is an untreated engineered timber product suitable for use as a structural element where the risk of exposure to moisture is minimised.

Techlam supplies Sprucelam for use as a structural element located within the external envelope of a building or where it forms part of the external structure subject to the same controls applied to untreated Douglas Fir.

Where used as part of the external structure the following scope applies:

In new buildings designed and construction to NZS3604:2011or specifically engineered to NZS3603:1993.
In existing buildings where the designer and installer have determined that the existing building is suitable for the intended building work and that all other conditions have been met, and
In stand alone, single units less than 10m in building height, and
In all corrosion zones, subject to fixings in accordance with section 4, NZS3604:2011
Has a risk matrix score of no more than 6 on any external face, as defined in E2/AS1, and
Has a roof slope of 10° or more, and
If it has a skillion roof, the roofing material is corrugated iron or concrete, metal of clay tiles for adequate ventilation, and
Has eaves or 450mm-wide or more for single-storey buildings and eaves 600mm-wide or more for two storey buildings

If designed, installed and maintained in accordance with all Techlam requirements, Sprucelam will comply with or contribute to compliance with the following provisions of the NZBC:

B1 Structure, B1.3.1, B1.3.2, B1.3.3 (a, b, f, h, j, m, q) - Compliance by Alternative Solution AS/NZS1328:1998 (glulamination) NZS3603:1993A4 (timber structures), NZS3631:1998 (grading) and AS/NZS 5068:2006 (finger jointing).
