Completed in late 2014, Queesnland's Lady Cilento Children's Hospital is a 1.5 billion dollar program of works to improve children's health services in Queensland. A major construction project, the main building comprises 11 levels with 359 beds, 75,000m² of floor space and a further four levels of underground carpark space.

In line with the forward thinking vision of the hospital, REHAU proposed using its innovative new soundproof RAUPIANO PLUS pipe system to plumbing contractors Christopher Contracting (CC). RAUPIANO PLUS pipes and fittings improve sound insulation performance through innovative three-layer pipes and bend fittings with optimised mass concentration to further reduce air-borne noise transmission - making it an ideal solution for hospitals.  Additional advantages include: more ceiling space for the other services, no disconnection of lagging once the job is completed meaning guaranteed acoustics will be there for the life of the installation and one less trade on site.  

CC were happy to use RAUPIANO as they were confident of the quality of REHAU products, but as the pipe was new to Australia a stringent series of tests and approvals had to be met prior to specification. Watermark, stock on the water, acoustic testing, fire testing, acoustic engineer, hydraulic engineer, builder approvals, Queensland Maintenance Services and Brisbane City Council onsite acoustic testing all took place before an installation test could be performed.

Meeting all required standards, 15,000m² of RAUPIANO PLUS was installed in Lady Cilento Children's Hospital making it the flagship project for this innovative new product.

Christopher Contracting were instrumental in the success of the project, ensuring all 40 of their plumbers were on site and ready for training when the first shipment of RAUPIANO PLUS arrived.
