Plankwall Almost Finished is a competitive factory painted MDF panel with a tongue and grooved edge. Two UV white coats on the face and a clear coat on the back completely seal the panel from moisture. It is a stable, strong option with good thermal performance and excellent bracing qualities, sustainably NZ-produced, and machined in a Carbon Zero factory.
Every Plankwall panel when fixed adds to the building rigidity. In a SCION P21 bracing test the results were:
- BU wind =149 (124 BU/m) as limited by serviceability load capacity
- BU Earthquake = 161 (134 BU/m) as limited by the ultimate load capacity.
Plankwall's thickness options of 9mm and 12mm give better thermal ratings than plasterboard. An 'unintentional field trial' by a builder in Blenheim proved this. His home was built entirely with Plankwall Building panels, while the home next door (which he also built) used plasterboard. In winter his home is 2°C warmer. And in summer it is cooler too. That same builder, who won’t have plasterboard on site, had no remedial work following the Kaikoura earthquakes, while neighbouring homes did.
Build time is reduced using Plankwall Building panels. A subtrade is eliminated as there is no stopping of holes and edges required. This also reduces dust on site. And painters are generally impressed with how true and flat Plankwall ceilings are.
Build time is reduced even further with Plankwall's Almost Finished undercoating. With this coating, just two final coats are recommended. And in high ceilings, Plankwall Almost Finished may require only one coat to cover the pneumatically fired pin holes and joins.
Plankwall unpainted Standard V10 is available from merchants. V15 with wider grooves and W08, W grooved at 8cms are also available.
Plain faced Plankwall has an added benefit over plasterboard with its high impact resistance. As with the face grooved panels, the edges have a machined tongue and groove.
Plankwall is available 2.44m, 2.745m, 3.66m at 1.2m wide.
