Plankwall Plain Faced MDF Wall Panel
Description

Plankwall Plain Faced (PF) Panels are made of MDF with tongue and groove edges suitable for use on interior walls and ceilings. Made from sustainably grown Nelson pine with an E0 rating, these panels are produced at a very low emissions cost. MDF panels excel In lively, boisterous homes, education facilities, and situations where impact against a wall is likely. The panels are more than three times resistant to impact than plaster board.

The tongue and groove join ensures the panel face remains as a flush surface. It provides effective bracing, as well as reducing the need for sub-trades such as Gib stoppers and fixers. Panels are easily fixed using pins and GLU.

  • 9mm, 12mm MDF — produced by Nelson Pine
  • 1200mm wide
  • 2440, 2745, and 3660mm lengths

Finishes

The panels can be supplied as naturally raw MDF, with no coating. Or as Almost Finished® which has two coats of a white, factory applied epoxy acrylic UV on the front face (Colour match: Dulux Matt Tui Tuft 915 1266M). And a clear UV coat on the back. Almost Finished, whether it is considered as a finished or primed surface, it will save site labour and reduce project times.

Site applied acrylic paints freely transmit moisture. The epoxy acrylic UV coats on Almost Finished panels, protects from moisture, mould and atmospheric changes. Suitable for some external areas which are weather protected such as carports.

The join can be left as a fine straight line or can be concealed with filler. Plain faced can be supplied as PFV,  with a slight indent on each edge making the join look like a V Groove, making the join more evident.

Installation

As a general fixing recommendation use:

  • 40mm galvanised clouts at 150mm centres, top and bottom where skirtings and architraves are to be fitted, plus, around doors and windows
  • Galvanised brads at 200mm centres on joins and on the centre line 800mm and 1600mm up
  • Screw bracing in wardrobes or at rear of lounge where lighting is less effective and where furniture may be placed to reduce visibility of fixings should this occur
  • Glue all studs and dwangs with a quality panel adhesive

Use a quality paintable gap filler on joins and internal corners. Also in the grooves where they meet the skirting and architrave before painting. This will ensure with any slight panel movement the paint remains unbroken.

Priming can be applied to 'raw' panels before skirtings and architraves are fitted. Using a coarse paint roller will also seal the grooves without need for brush. This gives a slight undulated finish.
