Pink Batts insulation was originally designed following old building practices, which meant that 580mm insulation was the right choice to account for variations in frame spacing. Current construction methods, however, mean that original 580mm wide Pink Batts require awkward and time consuming trimming to fit standard 600 centres. Pre-nail framing is more accurate, so providing 580mm insulation is no longer necessary as the extra width means installers are continually required to trim 10-15mm strips off their insulation. Not only is this time consuming but it creates more waste.
It's an issue that Pink Batts have been aware of for a while, and have been working hard on rectifying. They are now pleased to announce that new 560mm Pink Batts wall insulation will be available shortly.
Less Waste:
Reducing the width of the segments means less product used and fewer offcuts put into landfills. This minimises waste and the impact the insulation has on the environment, reflecting Pink Batts' commitment to sustainability.
More Effective Insulation:
It's not always possible to achieve a straight line when cutting the width of the segment. Poor installation — like folds, tucking in and gaps — reduces the effectiveness of the insulation. If the segments are cut smaller than required, the gaps will affect the thermal performance. Decreasing the number of cuts helps ensure the insulation fits properly and achieves the R-value it should.
Improved installation helps increase the home's energy efficiency and assists homeowners in achieving energy savings over the life of the building.
