Prime Soft-Matt High-Pressure Laminate Creates an Elegant, Durable Kitchen Space

Using Prime Soft-Matt High-Pressure Laminate (HPL), designer Peta Davy from Yellowfox has created an elegant and durable kitchen space in her recent Queenstown project. As showcased on Grand Designs NZ in late 2023, this fabulous Queenstown retreat has been purpose-built as a shared holiday retreat for six families. The kitchen space needed to not only look the part, but durability was a must.

Choosing a dark colour scheme to make the most of the serenity and stunning views of the Remarkables, Peta and her client found Prime Soft-Matt HPL to be the ideal solution. Not only soft to the touch, this finish resisted fingerprint marks effectively but also provided uniform colour, addressing a common concern with dark cabinets. Primate Laminate HPL offered superior scratch resistance and a hygienic anti-microbial surface, ensuring the longevity required for this bustling kitchen.

Peta also demonstrated its compatibility with various materials creating a harmonious blend in her project with timber and aged brass.

While the project opted for a soft-matt finish, Prime HPL designs encompass a variety of other finishes including gloss and softly textured surfaces, with a colour range spanning over 35 colours. What’s more exciting is that there is a writeable and magnetic whiteboard option adding an element of fun to projects.

Prime Laminate can be pressed onto a range of substrate options including MDF in moisture-resistant and fire-resistant options and a range of plywood in a range of thicknesses. Panels are available in two sizes and matching edge tape in different dimensions is also available. A 10-year warranty is offered on the range.
