Tōia — Otahuhu’s new recreational precinct which was officially opened on August 8 by Mayor Len Brown, creates an exciting hub for the suburb with a new library and aquatic centre. Tōia is a multi-purpose facility which allows Otahuhu residents to come together to swim, play, read and relax.
Asona is proud to be a part of this unique build designed by the architectural practice Creative Spaces, who selected Asona’s Triton Cloud panels to adorn the main walls and control the acoustics in both the library and pool areas.
The panels were wrapped in four different coloured Sonatex facings and produced in three different thicknesses — 25mm, 50mm and 75mm, with the pool area wall panels having an additional water repellent treatment added to protect them from moisture. The effect is both colourful and textural in a 3D manner.
For the library ceilings, a large bespoke cloud panel feature was installed centrally using different shaped 50mm panel segments radiating out to form a large circle. An additional five groupings of twelve interlocking Cloud 50 panels are suspended throughout the library, giving a complete acoustic coverage for this quiet reading and relaxing area.
Over the 25m lap pool, Asona’s Triton Cloud Pool panels were installed wrapped in white Sonatex facing with a water repellent coating and foil backing. The panels were mounted to a wooden frame and suspended under the roof line to control the reverberation of this large open space.
