It’s a constant battle — architects, project designers and specifiers aiming to save time and eliminate non-compliance yet produce accurate drawings that are more likely to receive client sign-off.
On large projects with many complex handrails, guardrails or balustrades, Moddex have many tools that help you achieve compliance and give you the confidence that you are specifying a compliant, high-quality balustrade or handrail product into your design.
So how does Moddex help?
BIM content library
Moddex have partnered with IGS BIM Solutions to develop an extensive, high-quality Revit (BIM) content library. The BIM library is available to download in Revit 2018 (and all subsequent versions) and AutoCAD.
The Moddex library of Handrails, Guardrails, Balustrades & Barrier Solutions has been developed to a consistent, high-quality standard, with consideration given to finding a balance in content flexibility/functionality, complexity of use, documentation output and performance in a Revit project environment. Moddex’s Revit content demonstrates how out modular designs are fit for purpose, simple to use and able to be modified to cater for almost any configuration and project application.
Revit user guide
Moddex have created a Revit user guide to help you increase understanding and usability of the Moddex Revit content library by highlighting key features of the railing systems along with how-to steps to create several complex configurations. There is a focus on railing types that require overlaying various elements to achieve a combined railing system using stair posts, landing posts and rail elements.
Virtual showroom
The Moddex BIM library also includes an all-in-one Revit ‘Virtual Showroom’ for efficient library access, browsing and QA.
Downloadable ArchiCAD, AutoCAD & Tekla files
Moddex supply downloadable files to any design professional who needs to specify balustrade and handrail on their project. These files are compatible with all major automated drawing software — ArchiCAD, BIM, Revit, Tekla etc.
Instead of manually drawing a handrail or balustrade, designers can choose the one that best suits their needs from the family of products and configure the correct sized components within their design.
A client of ours said, “Moddex' CAD 3D library is fantastic and makes designing and compliance so much easier to achieve.”

Why use a branded work section?
Save time:
- Minimal customising required as the branded work section template has been approximately 90% pre-edited
- Reduce research time by linking directly to current product information via hyperlinks in the branded work section
Ensure quality:
- Rely on the MasterSpec industry knowledge and regular updates of relevant standards and building codes
- Reduce the risk of product substitution as the unique performance characteristics of the product are clearly specified
PS1 Documentation
Every one of Moddex's handrail and balustrade systems has undergone rigorous testing to meet the New Zealand Compliance Standards which means we are able to provide you with readily available PS1’s for Moddex's systems. You can avoid delays and crippling costs at the council sign-off stage, making council sign-off a breeze.
Different projects have different levels of safety requirements, some more complex than others. In such a case, Moddex's engineer can conduct a detailed evaluation of your handrail and balustrade design and produce a site specific PS1 to ensure your Moddex system complies with the relevant standards.
Moddex hopes design professionals seeking greater efficiencies and compliance in their designs find these tools to be valuable and they welcome any feedback.
