Juralco Balustrade Details Incorporate Updated Deck Structural Solutions

To keep up with changes in the industry and futureproof their products, Juralco keeps a close eye on improvements in building methods and incorporates them quickly into their systems.

Developments in building products have seen the introduction of some smart and easy use deck fixing systems, which the NZ Building industry has embraced. In particular, the Lumberlok CPC40 fixing system for decks supporting a cantilever baluster system has been very popular. These stainless steel cleats are fitted on internal deck connections, superseding previous systems where 53mm straps are fixed in routed slots on top edges of the joists.

Market demand from the NZ building industry for this new CPC40 deck fixing method has seen Juralco update their balustrade specifications to detail this. Before updating the specifications, Juralco had to test their balustrade systems using CPC40 cleat deck fixings and obtain engineer sign-off. This was all after waiting to receive confirmation from the supplier that their system was NZ building standards certified.

CPC40 SS cleats are an alternative solution to NZS3604:2011 Clause 7.4.1.3 and to reflect this change in market preference, all Juralco balustrade details have been updated to reference this new fixing method.
