Flooring to Reduce Impact Sound Transmission

From broadloom carpet for commercial and residential applications, carpet tiles, rubber, vinyl and LVT to underlay with significant acoustic properties, Jacobsen has a solution for most projects.

The explosion of multi-level living and working has seen an increase in the need for acoustic solutions that dampen noise transfer between floors. Sound can be a major impediment to health and wellbeing as well as comfort in an environment. Flooring plays an important role in reducing impact sound transmission between floors.

The latest in Shaw LVT, Concrete + Composed, offers a significant sound transmission reduction of 21dB. Using Shaw Coretec XRC, this LVT consists of a dense, rigid core with exceptional dimensional stability and an attached cork underlayment. This LVT can be clicked together for a floating floor or glued down. And the stunning designs available in this range mean there's no need to compromise aesthetics for practical features.

Carpet and carpet tiles provide a natural reduction in sound transmission, however, when better acoustic properties are required, cushion backed carpet tiles such as Desso Soundmaster or Shaw Ecologix can supply a sound transmission reduction of over 30dB. 100% Solution Dyed Nylon, all Desso and Shaw carpets hold Cradle to Cradle certification and can be recycled at end of life. And the wide range of colours and designs available allow designers to create truly unique designs.

Where the flooring chosen does not offer acoustic properties, Regupol 4515 acoustic underlay is designed to reduce the impact sound from footfall. Offering an approximate reduction of 17dB – 19dB dependent on the composition of the substrate, Regupol 4515 and 4515-S covers the full range of material types. 4515 is suitable for wood, laminate and tiles, while 4515-S is suitable for LVT, and vinyl.

The importance of reducing the noise transfer between floors means this is an important element to consider early in the design of the interiors.

Jacobsen has the expertise to assist designers with the right product selection for each project's acoustic properties.

Shaw Contract, Desso and Regupol is distributed in New Zealand by Jacobsen. A New Zealand owned, family business established in 1962, Jacobsen offers a range of quality international brands providing innovative surface solutions which combine performance, texture and design.
