Evie Kemp, known for her love of colour, moved into her four-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Manurewa six years ago. As a designer and illustrator, it was important for Evie to put her stamp on the predominately whitewashed interior. The kitchen and bathrooms had recently been renovated and were in good condition; there was no need to replace the cabinetry. The new Dulux Renovation Range offered a simple solution to completely transform each space without the cost of a full refurbishment.

Dulux Renovation Range Cabinet Doors coating was used in Evie Kemp’s bathroom — a water-based interior coating that is designed to adhere to hard-to-paint surfaces in the kitchen, bathroom or laundry. Kemp’s cabinet and vanity top were painted in Dulux Huka Falls, the bold colour became the focal point of the space, calling back to the retro theme throughout the Manurewa home. She then designed a wallpaper to match, creating a colourful corner in the once white on white space.

“With Dulux Huka Falls, it was just a colour I really loved and I wanted something in the bathroom that was fresh and bright. I chose this colour as a jumping-off point and designed the wallpaper to go with the colour. Once we painted the vanity, everything else clicked into place with designing the wallpaper and choosing the art,” says Evie.

The easy application guides make the product suitable for a DIY painter, yet the application does require some skill and planning. Allowing time between coats to dry is imperative to a quality finish.

“For my bathroom, it was just all white tiles floor to ceiling. It wasn’t old or worn, it was just so white and didn’t fit with our style,” says Evie.
