Certified, Sustainable Architectural Hardware

An EPD means the product has gone through a full Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), determining environmental impact from cradle to grave. In short, the product will be fit for purpose and result in reduced operating and maintenance costs across the lifecycle of the product and full recycleability at the end of its life.

DORMA have continued to expand ISO 14025 EPDs for other product lines, meaning you can now specify certified, sustainable systems as well as specific, sustainable product.

ISO 14025 EPD certified product from the DORMA range includes, surface-mounted Door Closers (TS Series), the concealed ITS 96, ED100/250 Swing Arm Operators and Moveo and Variflex Moveable Walls.

Couple those items up with DORMA 304 Stainless Steel hinges, 316 Stainless Steel Coastal Series door furniture and ST9600 Mortice Locks and you have an effective, sustainable Architectural Hardware system.

As the range of certified product expands, we’ll keep you informed.

It’s fair to say sustainability has taken a beating during the GFC and compliance costs have meant sustainable developments have been shelved or postponed. However, the opportunity for sustainable refit and refurbishment is an attractive option for developers and investors. The Green Building Index released last year by the Property Council of New Zealand and the New Zealand Green Building Council shows upgrading C-Grade office space to Premium and A-Grade Green Star rated office space is an opportunity for growth.

DORMA has been excited to work on projects with a sustainable focus. The fact that DORMA has some certified product is a real bonus. While architectural hardware isn’t recognised by the NZGBC as a rateable product, DORMA believes it is important to deliver tangibly on sustainable ideas for the future of our industry.

Keeping in mind the DORMA commitment to the end user, these products will last the test of time and provide reliable, consistent service at no extra cost. There’s no doubt that sustainable building will become more and more prevalent, but why wait when you have product available to you here and now?
