"We don't just do cubicles, we really help to create superior fit-for-purpose spaces that look great," says Resco product specialist Troy Henriques. "This job was really bespoke and obviously quite special."
In 2013 the Auckland Art Gallery was awarded World Building of the Year at the prestigious World Architecture Festival, after first winning the Heritage, Interior and Civic Building categories.
Project architect Russell Pinel of Archimedia explains that the look and function his firm required was "clean, clear and tidy, and of a high quality, so it becomes timeless." Archimedia, over a period, worked up a set of customised details with Resco. "With the Auckland Art Gallery restrooms we wanted those discreet fixings, clean lines and minimum componentry taken to another level," says Russell.
"For example, a lot of time and effort was put into how the stalls were fixed to the floors and where they abut walls," he says. "We wanted all the surfaces flush, with no channels or gaps."
Special hardware fittings were ordered for this project and a flush pelmet was created above the cubicle doors by the Resco team. Resco products are preferred by Archimedia for their uncluttered design and their strong solid core (Compact Laminate) construction, which can't be damaged by moisture, says Russell.
Resco's Troy Henriques points out that all his firm's panels contain Antibac, an innovative new bacteria-repelling compound that kills 99% of bacteria within two hours, for the lifetime of the panel. "Our pre-finished panels are water, impact and graffiti resistant and extremely low maintenance," says Troy. "We are a solutions company; we are here to help architects and builders create superior spaces, and there is no doubt the Auckland Art Gallery is in that category."
