Within commercial ceiling environments, the challenge is to integrate the required acoustic treatment along with lighting, air handling and fire systems together seamlessly to meet the designer's vision.
Over the years Asona has created many custom-made acoustic ceiling solutions that have incorporated LED, strip lighting and hanging pendants, providing an integrated solution that reduces ceiling clutter while providing good lighting. Often the solution becomes the design feature, while still ensuring that the acoustics and the lighting function effectively together.
In the case of ANZ Wellington, the circular client meeting rooms required a bespoke solution. Custom-made fabric-wrapped Triton Cloud panel that incorporated bold strip lighting was used for a clean, clutter-free ceiling — solving the problem of adding acoustic control and lighting into a cramped space.
The Otahuhu Recreational Centre made extensive use of notched Triton Cloud panels where the hanging strip lights nested within the notches. This created a visual harmony between the acoustic treatment and the lighting of these large open areas. Another highlight was the dramatic segmented circular Cloud feature incorporating its own strip lighting which was created to illuminate the reading area.
Hesketh Henry selected stretched translucent membrane for the feature walls and ceilings with an integrated back-lit LED lighting system to create a visually stunning reception area and to create added drama up the stairwells between floors. During the day the lighting changes to create different moods, adding to the visual uniqueness of this project.
